The Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance has now published the list of national authorities and bodies that enforce or supervise compliance with EU obligations on the protection of the fundamental rights of citizens concerning the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Greece.

The government lists the following authorities and agencies:

• The Hellenic Data Protection Authority
• The Greek Ombudsman
• The Hellenic Authority for Communication Security and Privacy
• The National Commission for Human Rights

By establishing and publishing the list in question, Greece meets the first national obligation to implement the AI Act at the domestic level. The Authorities in question will be granted additional powers, such as access to any documentation created or maintained by an organisation for the purpose of complying with the AI Regulation, effective as of 2 August 2026.

It is highlighted that the AI Act came into force on 2 August 2024, and that the individual obligations imposed thereunder will commence to be implemented gradually over a period of 36 months from its entry into force.
